Dusk Chocolate - Dutch Bean to Bar chocolate
In the chocolate industry there is much to be done about fair prices for farmers and the prevention of exploitation. We purchase our beans from suppliers who hold all these core values very highly. With every farmer is a personal and honest relationship. We strive to make our products as fair as possible and make the farmers happy!
All our ingredients are sustainably sourced. And our packaging is bio degradable. This is important to us. We have one planet and we need to take care of it.
Dusk strives to produce as less waste as possible. In each step of our process we carefully consider how to reduce our waste. For example we reuse cacao husks, which would normally be discarded, in new products while maintaining the highest quality standards.
We enable people with a labour market distance to work in our company. This way they can gain experience and confidence that will help them further in their lives. Part of our packaging process is done by adults with intellectual disabilities.
We work with logistics partners who do bike deliveries and, if not possible use cars running on green gas. This reduces our carbon footprint with up to 60%.
Because we only use the best organic ingredients, our products taste extraordinary. In contrast to supermarket chocolate – where cheap ingredients provide a less-tasting bar – we go for the highest quality. And you can taste it!
Dusk Chocolate is made from bean to bar. Artisanally produced in small batches.
We start by hand sorting the beans until the highest quality standards are met. We roast the beans for a very short period of time to ensure the best flavours will arise. Then we winnow the beans so the shells will be removed from the beans and the cacao nibs remain. These nibs are then refined under granite stones for over 24 hours while adding sugar and cocoa butter. The chocolate will rest for at least 3 weeks to let the flavours develop.
The finished chocolate is then poured into moulds shaped like the final chocolate bar and cooled in a refrigerator. The final step is to wrap the bars and put them into their boxes.
